Mon Repos man killed; suspect found hiding in toilet, businessman arrested
Police are investigating the murder of 23-year-old Brayon Dewakar of Third Street, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara which occurred in the wee hours this morning and a businessman and his son are the main suspects.
News Room understands that Dewakar, a labourer of lot 128 Mon Repos South, was at a Bar-B-Que at Third Street at about 00:15hrs when he had an argument with the businessman and his son.
It is alleged that Dewakar’s friends ran away and left him after the businessman’s son pulled out a knife at him [Dewakar].
Reports indicate that shortly after, the labourer’s friends found him motionless in a nearby yard in a pool of blood. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A knife, suspected to be the murder weapon, was also found in a trench.
News Room understands ranks visited the home of the suspects and found the businessman’s son hiding in a toilet; he was subsequently arrested.
However, the ranks on duty at the station were not aware that the businessman was involved in the murder and in the wee hours this morning, the businessman visited the Beterverwagting Police Station and reported that Dewakar had beaten and robbed him.
As such, the ranks issued him with a medical after which he went to the Georgetown Hospital. While there, the ranks who took Dewakar’s body to the GPHC, saw the businessman there and arrested him in connection with the murder.
Investigations are ongoing.
