Prison Officer accepts $20,000 bribe to transport ganja
Two prison officers were on Sunday night arrested after they were found in possession of a black bag containing two parcels of marijuana.
According to the Director of Prisons (ag), Gladwin Samuels, information was received that the officers collected a parcel from a civilian while on duty at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
As such, an operation was set up by ranks of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and a bus in which the officers were travelling in, was intercepted at the East Coast park.
A search was conducted by the police during which, the items were found. The two prison officers were escorted to Brickdam Police Station where the parcels were weighed and amounted to a pound.
One of the officers admitted to collecting the item to take for a prisoner as food. He told investigators that he was paid $20,000.
The men remain in custody as investigation continues.
