Businesswoman attacked, robbed of $2.7M in Botanical Gardens

Police are on the hunt for two men who executed a daring robbery at around 15:00hrs at the Botanical Gardens on Regent Street and Vlissengen Road yesterday.

Forty-six-year-old Navita Novais, a miner of Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was in the gardens with her husband in a taxi waiting to pick up their children when the armed men approached the right back passenger door and fired a shot that shattered the window screen.

Novais became fearful and handed over her $10,000 handbag which contained $360,000 cash, and ten ounces of raw gold valued at $2.4M. The bandits then escaped on a CG motorcycle.

News Room understands that the businesswoman left home at around 10:00hrs with a taxi she uses on a regular basis to conduct several transactions in Georgetown. Police recovered a .32 spent shell at the scene of the crime. Investigations are ongoing.
