While the Taraweeh prayers were ongoing at the West Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara Masjid, a well-known thief was caught red-handed last night stealing from a woman’s purse.
The young man, who was only identified as ‘Gangsta’ of Railway View, Meten-Meer-Zorg, was observed walking into the women’s section of the mosque.
A brother of the mosque followed him and observed when he rummaged through the purses and stole a cellphone and cash.
The brother alerted others and they found a cell phone and cash in his possession.
News Room understands that for several days now, persons at the mosque have reported their belongings stolen and this is not the first time that the suspect has committed the act.
He was handed over to the police.
