Pregnant woman charged with husband’s death
A 25-year-old mother of three from Soesdyke Back Road, East Bank Demerara today appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, charged with manslaughter after she allegedly strangled her reputed husband to death.
Melissa Cylus, who is five months pregnant, appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly and was not required to plea to the charge, which alleged that on May 13, 2018, at Soesdyke, she unlawfully killed 32-year-old Julian Anthony Reberio.
The woman was released on $200,000 bail and the matter is adjourned to July 18.
Police had reported that Cylus initially told investigators that her husband went home intoxicated and fell down in the house; as a result, she rushed him to the Diamond Diagnostic Center where he died.
However, she recanted her story during questioning and told investigators that they had an altercation and she became annoyed and strangled him.
A post-mortem revealed that Reberio died from asphyxiation due to compression injuries to the neck.
