Popular Calypsonian, ‘Mighty Rebel’ passed away this morning at a city hospital.
Rebel, whose real name is Geofrey Phillips, was suffering from a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed by relatives on his social media page.
‘Mighty Rebel’, was known for his hard-hitting, controversial and witty lyrics and won Mashramani Calypso competitions.
Rebel’s winning songs include his 1988 hit “Secondhand”, 1993 – “Desi You Wrong”, 1997- “Political Lie”, 2001- “Ask de President”, 2007- “Is We Put You Deh” and 2010- “All Awee Know De Man”.
