A fire on Friday night completely destroyed a two storey wooden and concrete house at Non-Pariel on the East Coast of Demerara.
News Room understands that the fire started at about 08:50 hrs in the ceiling of the house. News Room was told that the community had a power outage earlier in the night and the fire started one hour after electricity was restored.
It was reported that persons rushed to assist and were only able to save a minibus which was parked in the yard.
The house was occupied by a family of five but no one was at home at the time
According to an eyewitness, the Guyana Fire Service took approximately 30 to 45 minutes to arrive at the scene and another 15 mins to locate water. By this time, the house was already engulfed in flames.
