Businessman, contractor robbed at gunpoint

Police are on the hunt for two men who held a 65-year-old businessman and his contractor at gunpoint on Thursday ordered them to lie on the floor and robbed them of $1.5M in cash along with other valuables.

News Room understands that the armed robbery occurred at around 14:00hrs at Lot 47 Durban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown.

The bandits, one of whom was armed with a gun, also escaped with a $10,000 cell phone and thousands of dollars worth in Digicel and GTT phone cards.

According to information reaching News Room, the businessman, Noor Ally, was standing in the lower flat of his house watching as his contractor, 44-year-old Ernie Castello constructing a shed.

Ally then observed when one of the suspects was walking in the yard after which he turned around and was confronted by the accomplice who held a gun to his face.

The gunman ordered Ally and the contractor into the shop and made them lie on the ground. The bandits then ransacked the shop and stole the cash and other items.

Police are in the process of reviewing surveillance footage from the area as the investigation continues.
