SA GAMES: Baird’s silver extends Guyana’s medal tally

Leslain Baird set a new national Javelin record for Guyana on his way to winning silver at the South American Games in Bolivia on Wednesday.

The Guyana Defence Force athlete, who had previous best of 74.71 meters which was achieved in February this year, threw 78.65 meters in his final attempt to finish behind Colombia’s Arley Ibarguen, who took gold with an attempt of 80.11 meters.

Baird’s medal is Guyana’s fifth at the event with four bronze medals coming from boxers Keevin Allicock and Colin  Lewis, sprinter Winston George (400m) and Hurdler Jenea McCammon (110m).
