Minibus overloaded with over 40 school children
Driver, Conductor charged
The driver and conductor of a route 42 minibus were arrested and slapped with several charges after a video of them overloading their vehicle was circulated on Facebook.
The video which was circulated on social media on Wednesday, June 06, 2018, indicated that 45 school children were in the minibus.
When arrested, the driver, Leon Jaggernaught, 38, of Laluni Highway and conductor Joshua Khan, 22, of 560 Golden Grove East Bank Demerara (EBD) told police ranks that there were only 24 students in the bus. However, a look at the video clearly showed that “the children were packed like sardines,” the police said in a statement.
Police said the men were arrested and charged for overcrowding the front seat of the bus, Breach of Insurance, and overloading the minibus. The driver and conductor were both charged for being untidy and the conductor faced an additional charge for being unlicensed.
They will make their court appearance tomorrow at Court Two of the Providence Magistrates’ Court.
