Ex-cop charged with break & enter, assaulting police officer

A former policeman today appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, charged with break and enter with larceny and assaulting another police officer.

Imran Khan, 25 of Westminster, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD) denied the two charges.

The first charge alleged that on May 22, 2018, at Independence Boulevard, in the company of another, he broke and entered the home of Natasha Haimchand and stole over $1,336,000 worth in items.

It is further alleged that on May 26 at Sandy Babb Street, Kitty he assaulted Police Corporal Mark Moses, who was acting in the execution of his duties.

Last Friday, another accused in the same matter, Guy Edmonson was also charged before Magistrate Daly with break and enter. He was released on $80,000 bail.

According to reports, the complainant and Khan are mutual friends and on the day in question, Khan took Edmondson to the woman’s home to view items she had on sale.

On the day in question, the two assisted in taking some boxes into the home when Edmondson alleged that someone broke into the house and even helped in looking for the alleged thief.

However, when they left, neighbours told the woman that earlier in the day, they observed Edmondson and Khan in the yard.

The Magistrate released Khan on a total of $130,000 bail and adjourned the matter to July 6.
