Young pugilists from the island of Grenada are the first to register for the Caribbean School Boys and Juniors Boxing Championships, which is slated to be hosted by Guyana from August 17-19.

President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle, speaking to News Room Sport this week, explained that a six-member contingent from the ‘Spice Island’ were the first to register on Sunday.

The contingent comprises four boxers (three males and one female), a coach and a referee/judge.

According to Ninvalle, territories such as St. Lucia, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Suriname and for the first time, French Guiana, Turks and Caicos Islands and Cayman Islands are also expected to mark their attendance at the championships.

Meanwhile, the GBA made a steadfast start to their preparations over the weekend, by hosting the first of their bi-weekly competitions at the Andrew ‘Six Head’ Lewis gym.

The heated proceedings saw Harpy Eagles Boxing Gym of Albouystown registering three wins from five bouts in the School Boys category. The next day action is June 23.
