Youth charged with shooting, robbing Wash Bay owner

A 23-year-old Eccles, East Bank Demerara resident was on Thursday charged in relation to the shooting of a wash bay owner during a robbery last week.

Jermain Jossiah, a construction worker, appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan and denied the charges.

It is alleged that on June 10 at Lombard Street, Jossiah, while in the company of another and armed with a gun, robbed Leroy Robertson of cash and valuables worth $46,000.

Jossiah was also charged with discharging a loaded firearm at Robertson with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

It is further alleged that on the same day at Evans Street, Charlestown, he had a .32 pistol in his possession when he is not a licenced firearm holder.

He was unrepresented and was remanded to prison until July 6.

It is alleged that Robertson was shot by one of the armed men after he refused to hand over his valuables. The men managed to escape but Jossiah was arrested soon after.
