Supermajor, ExxonMobil and regional gas distributor, Massy have been called on board to run some tests to determine the level of the natural gas present at a domestic water well which erupted last night at the Diamond/Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Kemraj Parsaram told reporters this morning that the preliminary tests have revealed that there is little presence or methane in the air.

More tests will be conducted to determine the exact quantity of gas present in the well.

Head of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) Kester Craig said the quantity of gas in the area will give authorities an idea of what actions to take.

He said residents are currently advised to proceed with their daily activities with caution and to desist from activities that are highly flammable like cooking or smoking.
