A 35-year-old man was on Monday sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for stealing $1.1M worth in cash and jewellery from his girlfriend.

Winston Marshall appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded guilty to the simple larceny charge.

The court heard that between April 6, 2018, and June 7, 2018, at Durban Street he stole the cash and items from Abina Hutson.

Police Prosecutor, Arwin Moore told the court that on the day in question, Hutson placed her money and jewellery in a suitcase and hid it under her bed.

However, on June 7, when Hutson was cleaning her room, she noticed that the suitcase was out of place and upon checking, she discovered the items missing.

The woman confronted Marshall and he confessed to pawning the jewellery.

During his court appearance, Marshall told the Magistrate that he used the money to pay his debts and feed his three kids.
