A 26-year- old miner was Tuesday remanded to prison for being in possession of a gun and ammunition without being a licenced firearm holder.

Andrew Ridley of Garnett Street, Albouystown appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It is alleged that on June 15, 2018, Ridley had a .32 Taurus pistol and eight rounds of matching ammunition in his possession.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on the day in question, ranks on mobile patrol saw Ridley on a motorcycle acting in a suspicious manner.

Ridley got off of the motorcycle and began to run, causing the ranks to give chase, the prosecutor said.

The ranks reportedly observed when Ridley removed the firearm from his waist and threw it away; the firearm was retrieved and Ridley was charged.

He did not have legal representation and was remanded to prison until July 11.
