Lusignan prisoner caught with knife, cutlass
Police have been called in to investigate the discovery of several contraband items outside of the holding bay at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
According to Prison Director (ag) Gladwin Samuels, two brand new weapons – a knife and a cutlass – were found by prison officers who were informed of the items by an inmate.
In a brief statement, Samuels explained that a prisoner had the contraband items in his possession but he was disarmed by another inmate.
The prisoner who disarmed him then got rid of the items by throwing it outside of the holding bay and then reported the matter to the prison officers.
Samuels said more details will be provided shortly.
