    GBA hosts successful Olympic Day badminton tournament

    World Olympic Day is celebrated on June 23 every year, and to mark the occasion the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) in partnership with the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) hosted a successful badminton tournament at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

    On the final day of the competition on Saturday, national champions Narayan Ramdhani and Jonathon Mangra teamed up to win the Open Men’s Doubles, beating Marlon Chung and Darrell Carpenay.

    Ramdhani and Mangra won in straight sets- 21-7, 21-18.

    Priyanna Ramdhani and Greer Jackson joined forces to win the Open Ladies Doubles, beating Shivannie Persaud and Christine Kumar in the final, while the pair of Gokarn Ramdhani and Nicholas Waldron won the Open Men’s Consolation.

    After the games, the top pairs were presented with their medals by GBA executive committee members Ayanna Wickham-Watson, Dr. Nicholas Waldron and Emelia Ramdhani.

    “The GBA would like to thank the GOA for making it possible for us to hold this tournament once again, Banks DIH for refreshments and Ms. Ayanna Wickham-Watson (Sol Representative) for the gift tokens,” GBA president Gokarn Ramdhani said.

    OPEN MEN’S DOUBLES:

    1st Place- Narayan Ramdhani and Jonathan Mangra

    2nd Place- Marlon Chung and Darrell Carpenay

    3rd Place- Ronald Chang Yuen and Akili Haynes

    4th Place- Dr. Easa Sanichara and Javid Rahaman

    OPEN LADIES DOUBLES:

    1st Place- Priyanna Ramdhani and Greer Jackson

    2nd Place- Dr. Shivannie Persaud and Christina Kumar

    3rd Place- Ayanna Wickham-Watson and Emelia Ramdhani

    4th Place- Jayde DaSilva and Stephanie Sagar

    OPEN MEN’S DOUBLES CONSOLATION:

    1st Place- Gokarn Ramdhani and Dr. Nicholas Waldron

    2nd Place- Johann Waldron and Isaac Mallampati

    3rd Place- Mahendra Sharma and Sekhar Mallampati

    3rd Place- Matthew Beharry and Vikash Mootoo
