A 22-Year-Houston Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara resident was on Monday sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for stealing a cell phone.

Kevin Christopher appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he admitted that on June 21, 2018, at Sussex Street, Charlestown, he stole a Samsung Galaxy cell phone valued $75,000, the property of Allen Campbell.

“I was going to sell it but I didn’t bother cause I feel bad,” Christopher told the court.

Police Prosecutor, Quinn Harris told the court that on the day in question, Campbell parked his car along Sussex Street and left his phone charging in the vehicle.

When he returned, the phone was missing.

The matter was reported to the police and based on investigations, Christopher was arrested.

Christopher admitted to stealing the phone and took officers to his house where the cell phone was recovered.

After imposing the sentence, the Magistrate told Christopher: “Don’t steal… work hard for what you want.”
