Two men held in connection with the murder of Berbice Butcher, Saeed Hamid, will be charged today with the capital offence while the man’s son will be charged with accessory to murder.

The police said 32-year-old Satrohan ‘Bluey’ Madray of lot 1 Section ‘G’ D’ Edward Village and 30-year-old Antonio Balroop who is an ex-policeman of 313 Plantation Hope, West Coast Berbice are expected to appear at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court where they will be formally charged.

The man’s son, 23-year-old Asif Hamid who is presently on remand for another murder, will also appear in court where he will be charged with “Accessory Before the Fact.”

The 23-year-old is on remand for the murder of an elderly Cattle/Rice Farmer of Number 56 Village Berbice whose remains were found buried in the backyard of Asif’s property in July 2015.

The charred remains of 56-year-old Saeed Hamid of 41 Queenstown Village, Corriverton, Berbice was found on June 20, 2018, buried behind a temple at D’ Edward Village, West Coast Berbice.

News Room understands the older Hamid was killed in a bid to prevent him from testifying against his son in the High Court trial.

On April 19, 2018, the businessman of Lot 41 Queenstown Corriverton, left for a business trip to Rosignol but was not heard from since and a missing person report was filed.

The two prime suspects admitted to bludgeoning the man to death and burning the man’s body to get rid of the evidence.
