Customs Broker, overseas-based Guyanese robbed at gunpoint

Moments after 36-year-old Riaz Ally and 45-year-old Ramotar Mansingh returned to their lot 76 Section ‘B’ Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home, they were held at gunpoint by two armed men, who ordered them to lie on the ground.

Police said at about 10am today Mansingh, who lives overseas and Ally, a Customs Broker, went to Republic Bank at Triumph ECD and withdrew $1.5M after which they went to Georgetown and purchased materials for Mansingh’s house.

One of the suspects went into the vehicle and took out a bag containing $500,000 and discharged a round in the air. The bandits escaped in a Silver Allion motorcar.

Ally was robbed of $100,000; 2 cell phones; 2 gold bands and a gold chain, while Mansingh was robbed of $600,000 and a cellphone, which he had in his possession.

Police recovered a .32 spent shell at the scene and investigators are reviewing CCTV footage.
