West Side man charged with attempted murder of ex-wife
A West Coast Demerara fisherman appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court Friday, charged with the attempted murder of his ex-wife.
Ramsawan Singh, 27 of Sea View Street, Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and was not required to plea to the charge.
It is alleged that on June 28 at Cornelia Ida, Singh unlawfully and maliciously wounded Geeta “Pinky” Deochand with intent to commit murder.
Singh was unrepresented and told the court that the victim is the mother of his 3-year-old son.
Police Prosecutor, Vivian Adolph objected to bail on the grounds that there is a restraining order against Singh prohibiting him be in close contact with the victim.
Adolph added that Deochand is still hospitalised. Magistrate Latchman remanded Singh to prison until July 3.

The assailant, who fled the scene, was captured and taken into custody shortly after.
The incident occurred about 08:00hrs at Sea View Street, Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara.
Police said that on Thursday morning, the woman and her son were standing on the Public Road when the suspect approached and asked to kiss his son.
“…but the victim refused to allow him and he became enraged, wounded her with a knife and fled the scene,” Police stated.
