Sachia Vickery made a winning start to Wimbledon 2018 with an easy victory over Merketa Vondrousova in the opening round on Tuesday.
The USA-based player of Guyanese parentage won 6-1 6-2 against her Czech Republic opponent. The 23-year-old Vickery has been steadily improving; she is currently racked 83 in the world.
She next faces Elise Mertens of Belgium in the Round of 64. Mertens defeated USA’s Danielle Rose Collins 6-3 6-2 in her opening game.
