Man shoots at neighbour, jumps into trench to escape cops

Annoyed that a fellow villager set free his horse, a 43-year-old cart operator discharged a loaded firearm in the man’s direction and then attempted to escape police custody.

Garnett Moore, of West Ruimveldt Squatting area, Georgetown plunged from a police van into a nearby trench when he was apprehended for shooting at 32-year-old Srinwell Campbell.

The incident occurred Thursday around 14:30hrs at West Ruimveldt.

News Room understands that Moore had tied his horse in front of Campbell’s house, however, Campbell released the animal.

Moore apparently became annoyed, armed himself with a small handgun and returned to Campbell’s home where he kicked down the door. Moore confronted Campbell and discharged a round in his direction.

Campbell managed to escape unhurt and alerted the police. When Moore was arrested, he jumped out of the police vehicle into trench, receiving injuries about his body.

He was again apprehended by ranks who took him to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention where he was treated.

Police retrieved two 9mm spent shells; one at the victim’s home and the other at the suspect’s home.

Investigations are ongoing.
