Hand-in-Hand supports Guyana Cup horse race meet

As the 12th annual Guyana Cup horse race meet draws closer, Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Company Limited has once again hopped on as a sponsor of the marquee horse race event in Guyana.

“Being the longest established insurance company in Guyana, Hand-in-Hand Insurance continues to show its support in all aspects of sports in Guyana and uses every opportunity to fulfil its corporate responsibilities to aid in the development of the sports industry, youths and tourism,” the company said.

At a simple presentation at the company’s Head Office, Director/Fire Manager, Howard Cox, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event and thanked the Guyana Cup organisers for allowing the company the opportunity to be a part of the August 19 event at the Rising Sun Turf Club.

Representative of Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee, Compton Sancho, in accepting the sponsorship cheque, thanked Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Company for its continued support.

Regarded as the biggest horse race meet in Guyana, the event is once again tipped to attract the leading animals, jockeys and trainers in the sport, providing lucrative prizes for the champions of the various races.

The 10-race programme will gallop off at noon, but gates would be open from 10:00h.

The C Class and Lower 1600m event is the feature race of the day, with a top purse of $3,875,000. This race is open to all imported and locally bred horses of all classes, and of all ages and sex.

The main supporting race is the Three-year-old Derby, a 1100m event with a top prize of $2,000,000. This race will feature only Guyana bred horses.

The G1 and Lower 1400m race will see the winner carting of $1,550,000. Guyana and West Indian bred horses classified G1 and Lower and imported horses classified E3 and Lower who did not earn in their last race are eligible to compete in this race.

The other races, distance and top prize are: H3 and Lower (1100m; $1,350,000); Two-year-old Guyana bred (1100m; $680,000); I Class and Lower (1400m; $581,000); J3 and Lower (1400m; $485,000); L Class (1400m; $390,000); L Class (1400m; $390,000); and L Class (1100m; $290,000).
