Cop’s gun, money stolen during Diamond accident

The service weapon and a quantity of cash belonging to a policeman who was involved in a road accident on Friday morning was stolen, police have confirmed.

Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus, who is currently on Annual Vacation Leave, crashed into a fence of the Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) at Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) after he swerved from the path of two pedestrians who suddenly crossed the road.

A 9mm glock and 17 live ammunition, both the property of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) were stolen, allegedly by the two civilians. The cop was also robbed of $300,000.

News Room understands that police reviewed CCTV footage, which revealed that the civilians exited a blue motorcar which stopped behind the victim’s crashed vehicle and removed the items.

Police are currently on the hunt for those individuals.

Meanwhile, Bacchus, who was rushed to the hospital in an unconscious state following the accident, is said to be in a stable condition.
