Drug bust at Bartica Stelling, Harbour Bridge
At least six persons, including a member of the Joint Services, have been taken into police custody following separate drug busts at the Demerara Harbour Bridge and Bartica Stelling.
A total of 2,096 grams of marijuana was found during the two incidents, statements from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) noted.
Police, acting on information received, stopped and searched a motorcar on the western side of the Harbour Bridge in the wee hours of Saturday morning. About 927 grams of cannabis packaged in ziplock bags were found.
In that case, the driver, who is the Joint Services member, along with three male counterparts have been detained.
Meanwhile, police in Bartica, acting on intelligence, searched a 32-year-old woman at the stelling around 08:45hrs Saturday morning. They discovered a plastic bucket which contained two taped parcels of compressed cannabis. The illegal substance weighed 1,169 grams.
A 34-year-old man was subsequently detained in connection to this drug bust. Both persons hail from the West Bank of Demerara (WBD).
Investigations are in progress.
