The bust was made when ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) conducted an operation in the early morning hours at several locations used for the docking of fishing vessels along the East Coast Sea Wall.

The vessel, which had two suspects, was interdicted at the Mon Repos Channel, CANU said. However, the boat captain escaped and the lone remaining suspect was arrested.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Azim Baksh, called “Bato”, of Good Hope, ECD. His wife was also taken into custody, CANU said.

Several other persons of interest, including Venezuelans are at large, the Unit stated.

Investigation are ongoing.
