Man dies after stab to neck with broken bottle

A 43-year-old man from Aruka River, North West District (NWD) is now dead after he was stabbed to the neck with a broken glass bottle by his drinking buddy.

Dead is Elroy Marks, a fisherman, who also hails from Dartmouth, Essequibo.

The incident occurred in the middle of a drinking spree on Saturday afternoon at the Kumaka Water Front, NWD.

“Investigations revealed that the victim and suspect who were known to each other, were imbibing at a shop when an argument ensued and escalated into a fight during which process, the suspect then allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed the victim to the neck which bled profusely,” a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) noted.

The victim was rushed to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital, in an unconscious state where he succumbed to his injury while receiving treatment about 20:55hrs Saturday night.

Police say the act was allegedly committed by a 43-year-old labourer of Hotoquai Village, NWD. The man has since been arrested.
