A family vacation turned tragic after a 46-year-old man on a jet skiing excursion in the Demerara River lost control and is feared drowned.

Ravindra Buhraj, called Rick, is an overseas-based Guyanese who was on holiday in Guyana with friends and family.

News Room understands that the man is believed to have drowned on in the Demerara River, in the vicinity of Coverden, East Bank Demerara (EBD) after he lost control of a jet ski which he was riding.

According to information received, Budhraj and a group of persons had just returned from Santa Mission on the Demerara River when they disembarked in the area of Jettoo’s Sawmill. Budhraj and a family friend, Stefan Gadjie of Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown then mounted a jet ski and went skiing on the river.

Gadjie told police officers that the victim lost control of the jet ski and they both fell into the river. A businessman who was nearby rushed to their rescue in a boat. However, the man only managed to save Gadjie.

Several searches were made for Budhraj but his body has not been recovered. An investigation has been launched.
