3 males, female to be charged with murder of phone card vendor

Four persons will today appear before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mclennan for the murder of a 37-year-old phone card vendor in front his lot 772 Westminster, West Bank Demerara home.

Ron Mansfield was fatally shot on June 19 during a robbery.

According to the police, 21-year-old Shomar ‘Pope Pi’ Singh of 61 D’Urban St., Wortmanville, Georgetown; 25-year-olds Alexander La Cruiz of 179 Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara (WCD); Mark ‘Biggs’ Welch of 2743 Recht-door-zee, WBD and Naiomi Bentick of 893 Westminster, WBD will be arraigned in court based on legal advice obtained.

Mansfield was a phone card vendor who usually plied his trade by riding around the community on his motorcycle. He was killed shortly after returning home. The bandit escaped with his day’s sales.

He was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Additionally, the police said Singh and LaCruiz have also been positively identified as the perpetrators of an armed robbery committed on a businessman at Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) several weeks ago. As such, they will also be charged for that crime as well.
