UPDATE: Body in Providence Canal identified as ‘Red Lion’
    FacebookTwitterPinterestEmailPrintWhatsAppRedditTelegramLinkedIn

“It’s Red Lion!” the crowd screamed as undertakers fished out the body of a man from a canal at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

‘Red Lion’ is a popular figure in the adjoining village of Herstelling.

His real name is Seecharran Jaigobin, 39. He lived with his brother, Seegobin, who was at the crime scene to identify the body.

‘Red Lion’ was last seen by neighbours, who were very fond of him, at a little girl’s birthday party “dancing up bad”.

The brother told News Room that ‘Red Lion’ arrived home early Sunday morning and slept all day, then left around 19:30hrs.

He was never seen or heard from since. Seegobin said this isn’t unusual since his brother would often disappear for days, usually to visit his other brother “Mike” in Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.

‘Red Lion’ was for the most time unemployed but he worked as a minibus conductor at times.
