Illegal guns seized at Little Diamond, Sophia

Police have seized two illegal guns in separate incidents at Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Police ranks on a mobile patrol at Diamond Wednesday afternoon observed a “suspicious looking male” entering a vehicle in front of the Diamond Hospital, a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said.

Upon approaching the man, the vehicle sped away and so the ranks gave chase. The vehicle was intercepted at Little Diamond and the driver and another occupant of the vehicle were arrested.

Police say an unlicensed .32 pistol with 12 live matching rounds, which the driver, 26, of James Street, Albouystown, had thrown out of the vehicle, was immediately retrieved.

The driver and the other occupant, a 28-year-old security guard of Perry Street, Tucville were taken into custody.

In the other incident which occurred Tuesday night, ranks of the Police Force’s Narcotics Branch, acting on information, proceed to a location at Dennis Street, Sophia and arrested a 25-year-old man who had an unlicensed gun in his possession.

The weapon was a .32 revolver.
