Nightclub owner remanded on drug trafficking charge

Clyde Barrett, the owner of ‘City Vybez’ nightclub located in Albouystown, Georgetown was remanded to prison Friday on a drug trafficking charge.

The 40-year-old appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan and pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on July 17, at his nightclub he had 19.188 kilograms of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Barret was represented by Attorney Mark Conway, who made an application for bail on the grounds that two other persons were also arrested at during the police raid at the nightclub.

Police Prosecutor, Neville Jeffers told the court that on the day in question, ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch found the drugs inside a cupboard in the kitchen and that Barret is the only persons with the keys to the cupboard.

The businessman was remanded to prison until August 8, 2018.
