A 36-year-old man of Port Kaituma, North West District today appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, charged with the murder of his reputed wife.

Tyrone James was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on July 15, 2018, at Water Front, Port Kaituma, he murdered 37-year-old Evadnee Baptiste.

James did not have legal representation and was remanded to prison until July 23.

News Room understands that the two shared a common law relationship and on the day in question at about 16:00hrs, the woman was at the Port Kaituma Water Front at a place known as ‘’the crack’ with her friends.

Hours later, James reportedly found her dancing with another man during which he cuffed her to the head and caused her to fall.

He then reported the matter to the Port Kaituma Police Station. Police took the woman to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Baptiste died from a brain haemorrhage due to blunt trauma to the head.
