Canal man sets fire to Lumber yard, damages ex-wife’s car
A 37-year-old man has been arrested after he set fire to a lumber yard at lot 40 Alliance, Canal #2, West Bank Demerara on Saturday night.
According to information received, Ramesh Thakur separated from his wife Bibi Shaheada Thakur about a year ago and the duo has an ongoing case in the High Court as it relates to the division of property.
Reports are that at about 22:00hrs on Saturday the man visited the Canal No.2 residence which is occupied by his ex-wife and proceed to damager her motor car with his canter.
He then went to the lumber yard which is located to the northern side of the house and started a fire.
The Guyana Fire Service along with the police were summoned to the scene but could not manage to save the business since it was already engulfed in flames upon their arrival.
Damages were estimated to be some $20M.
An investigation is ongoing.
