Twenty-three-year-old Kelvien Sauers known as ‘John’ was on Thursday sentenced to four years imprisonment and fined $3.3M for trafficking cocaine.

The young man did not have a lawyer and appeared before Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court where pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on July 6 at Lot 8 Enterprise, East Coast Demerara, he had 1.608 kilograms of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Prosecutor for the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), Konyo Sandiford told the court that on the day in question, CANU ranks visited the man’s Enterprise home and saw when he escaped by jumping through a window.

Ranks searched the house and found two backpacks which contained 279 cocaine pellets.

A wanted bulletin was issued for Sauers and he subsequently turned himself into the police on July 24.

The Prosecutor informed the court that Sauers’ case is linked to Anisah Hardy, 19, who was busted at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport after ingesting 119 pellets of cocaine.

Hardy, had excreted 702 grams of cocaine and was sentenced three years jail and fined $1.4M.

The teenager had told a CANU officer that Sauers had given her the drugs.
