A former Traffic Officer, Chris Brown, was today charged with a bribery offence after he accepted $10,000 to waive a traffic ticket.

Brown, 28 of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, who is now stationed at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan and was released on $5,000 bail after denying the charge.

The charge stated that on December 7, 2017, at Ruimveldt Police Station while being an agent of the State, Brown along with officer Mark Collins corruptly obtained from Iyana Huston the sum of $10,000, as an inducement or reward for foregoing to charge Dwayne Dover with a traffic offence.

Collins was also charged but failed to show up in court. The matter is adjourned until August 6.

News Room understands that the Police Constables were caught during a sting operation after Huston recorded the serial numbers and gave the information to a Police Sergeant.
