A 36-year old labourer is expected to appear in court on Monday for allegedly injuring his reputed wife, her mother and a four-year-old at about 02:00hrs on Saturday.

Reports are that Julian Sargeant lives with his reputed wife, 19-year-old Tiffany McBeth, at Success South Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara.

    Injuries sustained by Tiffany McBeth

The man’s mother-in-law, Lorraine McBeth, 64, a housewife of 56 Peters Hall, East Bank Demerara (EBD), visited the home to spend a few days with the couple along with her four-year-old granddaughter, Nathania Browne.

According to the police, in the wee hours of Saturday, the suspect suddenly awoke and began choking the infant.

The women then made attempts to restrain the suspect, but were attacked and repeatedly stabbed with a kitchen knife about their bodies.

    Sargeant then fled the scene.

The victims were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by the police who arrived on the scene shortly after the incident.

“There seems to be up to this time of release, no just reason for the suspect’s aggressive behaviour,” the police said in a statement on Sunday.

The victims were treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital and have since been discharged.
