A 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder of his 67-year old father-in-law, who had rescued his daughter from domestic abuse. The incident occurred at Canal Bank, Port Kaituma, North West District, Region One.

The suspect, along with three friends, was consuming alcohol at about 03:00hrs on Saturday at his home, the police said. Reports are that the suspect later allowed his friends to sleep at his house.

Subsequently, his wife and daughter ventured out to use the washroom and the suspect accused the woman of leaving to see his friends. As a result, the suspect began beating his wife.

The woman’s father, Dennis Williams, heard his daughter screaming and crossed the river with his boat, rescued and remained with her until the break of day.

Police said that at about 06:30hrs the next day, the father-in-law was returning home in his boat when the suspect entered a boat powered by an outboard engine and in “a fit of rage”, crashed into Williams’ vessel, causing him to fall overboard.

Williams’ lifeless body, which bore injuries to the head, was later recovered and is presently at the Port Kaituma Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
