The body of a 34-year-old male Engineer was at about 12:00hrs today fished out of the Demerara River.

The man was identified as Neil Sookram of Lot 18 Caines Street, Meadow Bank, Georgetown, who allegedly fell overboard between Monday and Tuesday at JSB investment Stone Yard and Wharf, located at Block ‘R’ Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

News Room understands that Sookram was last seen around midnight on Monday when he entered a boat – Christopher B – on which he works.

Reports are that he was under the influence of alcohol.

According to information received, Sookram’s sailor colleague Marcini Grosvenor, 25, told investigators that the 34 year old entered the boat at around midnight and asked him to drink a few beers to which he refused.

Grosvenor claimed that Sookram then left the cabin and was never seen again.

On Tuesday, Sookram’s body was found at Supply Village in the Demerara river.

The body was examined but no marks of violence seen.

The body is presently at the Lyken’s funeral home awaiting Post Mortem.
