21-Y-O arrested after shootout with police

A 21-year-old man is under guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital following a shootout with police at Norton Street, Georgetown.

The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon around 15:00hrs, police said in a statement.

According to the release, ranks of a mobile patrol observed the “suspicious movement of a motorcar in the city and followed it into Princess Street where two occupants with handguns exited and proceeded into a yard; two ranks went in pursuit of the men.

The suspicious vehicle continued into Norton and Chapel Streets where another armed male exited. Police said he was pursued by two other ranks.

During that pursuit, the man discharged his weapon at the ranks who returned fire and struck him in the upper left shoulder. He was later arrested and taken to the hospital for medical attention.

A .357 revolver with four live rounds and one spent shell was retrieved from the suspect who hails from Queenstown.

The other armed men escaped and police are on the hunt for them. The vehicle in which they were travelling was left abandoned.
