Man killed in Industry accident identified as 37 year old

The body of a man who succumbed to his injuries sustained during an accident at Industry, East Coast Demerara on Wednesday, has been identified as 37 year old Taquin Springer.

Springer of Lot 161, ‘D’ Field South Turkyen, Greater Georgetown by his brother at about 17:15hrs.

The 37 year old man was struck off of his bicycle at around 13:15 hrs on Wednesday and died six hours later at the Georgetown Public hospital.

Police said that the driver of the Georgetown-bound route 44 minibus claimed that the cyclist suddenly rode out of a southern access road, turned west and then north into his path. The driver told police that because of the short distance, the bus collided with the bicycle and the cyclist fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries.

The 29-year-old driver of the vehicle BWW 283 of South Vryheid’s Lust ECD, who took the injured but conscious victim to the hospital, is in custody assisting with the investigation.

He has passed a breathalyzer test, Police stated.

The bicycle has been removed from the scene of the accident by person(s) unknown.
