Man succumbs after struck off bicycle at Industry

A man, who is yet to be identified, has succumbed to injuries he sustained after being struck off his bicycle at Industry, East Coast Demerara on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 13:15 hrs and the man died six hours later at the Georgetown Public hospital.

Police said that the driver of the Georgetown-bound route 44 minibus claimed that the cyclist suddenly rode out of a southern access road, turned west and then north into his path. The driver told police that because of the short distance, the bus collided with the bicycle and the cyclist fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries.

The 29-year-old driver of the vehicle BWW 283 of South Vryheid’s Lust ECD, who took the injured but conscious victim to the hospital, is in custody assisting with the investigation.

He has passed a breathalyzer test, Police stated.

The bicycle has been removed from the scene of the accident by person(s) unknown.

The body of the man is currently lying at the GPHC Morgue.
