Pomeroon farmer murdered by masked gunman

A 73-year-old farmer of Grant Maria’s Delight in the Lower Pomeroon River was murdered by a masked gunman Friday evening.

The dead man has been identified as Deonarine, also known as Russian.

News Room understands that the murder occurred in the presence of a 46-year-old woman who shared an intimate relationship with the victim.

Approximately one hour before the incident, Deonarine went to the Charity Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast where he picked up the female and took her to his home.

They were reportedly sitting at a table when Deonarine left to answer a call at the front door. There, he was confronted by the suspect who was armed with a “long gun”.

The female intervened and held onto the suspect’s weapon. However, the masked man whipped out a knife. During the process, Deonarine attempted to run away but the suspect pushed the woman away and gave chase.
The suspect reportedly shot Deonarine to his abdomen, then escaped.

The wounded farmer was rushed by boat to the Charity Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman was taken into police custody to assist with the investigation.
