CPL: Hetmyer among the runs in Warriors warm-up
By Avenash Ramzan
Shimron Hetmyer, fresh off a solid performance in the recently concluded ODI series against Bangladesh, warmed up for the Hero Caribbean Premier League with a half-century in the Guyana Amazon Warriors first warm-up game on Monday evening at Providence.
Hetmyer struck 66, batting at number three, to lead Shoaib Malik’s XI to 187-6 off 20 overs. Jason Mohammed’s XI, in reply, were struggling at 58-6 when rain brought a premature end to the game after 11.1 overs.
The left-handed Hetmyer received support from skipper Malik, who struck 47. They added 76 for the third wicket. Hetmyer and Sherfane Rutherford, who opened the batting, joined forces to add 50 for the second wicket after Luke Ronchi fell for nine, bowled by Sohail Tanvir.
Rutherford made 40, as Tanvir ended with 3-23 and Raun Johnson 2-40.
Mohammed’s XI struggled from the inception as Warriors off-spinner Chris Green, brought in as a replacement for Cameron Delport, removed opener Trevon Griffith (1) and Akshaya Persaud (0) cheaply.
Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo snapped two wickets and Rayad Emrit and Clinton Pestano one each. Mohammed had a top score of 14.
