Vendor robbed at La Penitence Market

A businessman who operates a stall at the East La Penitence Market was on Tuesday afternoon robbed of cash and jewellery totalling $622,000.

The incident occurred at about 13:30hrs at the Market.

News Room understands that 60-year-old Cyral Belcaram of Kitty, Georgetown was sitting in a chair at his stall when he suddenly heard a voice said: “don’t move, give me everything”.

When he turned around, Belcaram was reportedly confronted by a male who pointed a gun at him and relieved him of a gold chain valued at $120,000, a gold ring valued at $90,000, a Gold Samsung Galaxy S8 cellular phone valued at $190,000 and $330,000 in cash.

The suspect escaped on a black motorcycle in the western direction.

The police are to review CCTV footage from buildings in the area as the investigation continues.
