The Guyana Police Force has recorded a 5% decrease in serious crimes at the end of July 2018 relative to the same period last year.
A total of 58 murders were recorded for the same period while 76 illegal firearms have been taken off the streets so far this year, compared to 81 for the corresponding period last year.
Statistics released by Police Headquarters revealed that there is a 17% decrease in murder; a 25% increase in robberies where no instruments were used; 7% increase in robbery under arms where firearms were used; a 23% decrease in robbery under arms where instruments other than firearm were used; a 7% increase in robbery with violence; a 25% decrease in robbery with aggravation and a 24% decrease in larceny from the person.
The Police also recorded a 3% increase in rape; a 7% increase in burglary and a 9% decrease in break and enter and larceny.
