A taxi driver attached to the Diamond Cabs Taxi Service was robbed of his car, cell phone, a gold ring valued $56000 and $13000 cash at about 17:00hrs on Monday.

News Room understands that 30-year-old Terry Persaud was plying his trade in the Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) where he picked up two passengers – a male and a female – who sat in the back seat and requested to be taken to Friendship, EBD.

A third male was picked up at Friendship and sat in the front seat.

Reports are that as the taxi driver proceeded in a southern direction and in the vicinity of Garden of Eden, he felt a cold object behind his neck while the male in the back seat of the car demanded that he stopped the car.

The driver reportedly complied as the suspect also threatened to shoot him.

As he stopped the car, News Room understands that the male in the front seat pulled off the man’s gold ring, took away his phone and money.

The taxi driver ran out of the car and the suspects drove off with it. Investigations are ongoing.
