A 50-year-old Pastor appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, charged with assaulting and threatening his wife.
Hansel Calestro of Citrus Grove, Port Kaituma, Region One, is accused of unlawfully assaulting Della Calestro on August 13 in Port Kaituma.
It is further alleged that on August 12 at Citrus Gove he made use of threatening behaviour against his wife.
The unrepresented man told the court that he is a Pastor and the father of seven children who has been married to his wife for more than 26 years.
Police Prosecutor, Quinn Harris told the court that the Pastor threatened the woman as she was about to vacate their home on August 12.
The court further heard that as the couple left a Welfare Officer the next day, the accused pushed the woman to the ground in the street.
The accused denied ever abusing the woman.
“My wife is unfaithful and I found her in the arms of another man,” Calestro said as he explained that the woman left him with the seven children.
“God in heaven knows I didn’t touch her…I feel so embarrassed,” the Pastor told the Magistrate.
He was released on $30,000 bail and is expected to return to court on August 22.
